Slim Chickens Heading to Memphis Area

A fast-growing, Arkansas-based chicken restaurant is preparing to break into the Memphis market in a big way.

The franchise group DHR has agreed to open seven Slim Chickens stores in the Mid-South within the next 60 months. It plans to start with Southaven’s $200 million Silo Square development, before opening restaurants in Collierville, Germantown, Olive Branch and Northeast Arkansas.

“We’ve got high aspirations with the brand — especially with the potential in Tennessee,” DHR partner Scott Davis said. “We could have 15-20 of these things in the next 10 years.”

Slim Chickens was founded in Fayetteville in 2003 and now has more than 70 locations in 14 U.S. states, Kuwait and London. Its goal is to have 600 restaurants worldwide within 10 years, spokeswoman Sydney Gitelis said.

DHR, which operates 33 Sonic Drive-Ins, chose Silo Square for the Mid-South’s first Slim store primarily because of its location on Getwell Road across from Snowden Grove Park.

“You want to be right in the middle between major commercial areas and major residential areas,” Davis said. “[The development] just fit. [But], if Snowden Grove Park hadn’t been across [from it], I don’t know if it would’ve been our No. 1 choice.”

Davis expects families to visit after sporting events at the park and before concerts, adding to the customers that will come from the development’s residents.
