Slim’s Mason Jar Desserts Are Getting Noticed

More consumers are having their cake – and pie, ice cream, and other traditional desserts – and eating them too, as the post-meal indulgence has gained steam in recent years. Nation’s Restaurant News shared in a recent article on the reemergence of classic desserts that according to Datassential, consumers are ordering dessert 1.9 percent more in the last year than in 2011 and butter is popping up on 20 percent more dessert menus than five years ago. But while desserts are making a comeback, interesting takes on classic dessert fare has been the trend at places like Corner Bakery Cafe, Baskin-Robbins, and Sonic Drive-In. Slim Chickens, a rapidly growing fast casual concept out of Fayetteville, Ark., has found success with their line of mason jar desserts. “You want to make sure that when someone puts a spoon in the jar they get all the flavors in one bite,” Sam Rothschild, COO and creator of the Southern-inspired line of dessert, told Nation’s Restaurant News about the desserts. Rothschild found the inspiration for the brand’s chocolate version by recreating a treat that his wife, Kelly, used to make for their kids. The brand sells their mason jar desserts for $4.99 and the fact that the consumer gets to keep the logo-ed jar has helped increase brand engagement. Read more here.
